Knowing you have cancer changes not only your own life, but also the lives of the people around you. The news can be extremely difficult to accept. The teams at the Centre intégré de cancérologie du CHUM (the CHUM integrated cancer centre, known as the CICC) understand that this is a very tough time in your life. Our experts will be by your side throughout the trajectory of care, from diagnostic investigation to treatment (surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology – or a combination of the three). The tools and information on this site have been put together in the hope that we can help demystify the various services and treatments you’ll be offered.
The Direction québécoise du cancer of the Ministère de la santé et des Services sociaux recognizes the CICC as a supra-regional specialized centre for the treatment of complex cancers. CICC specialists and professionals work hard to advance clinical practice – both diagnostic examinations and recommended treatments. They also perform clinical, fundamental and evaluative research, working together in 17 interdisciplinary teams, including 14 teams for tumour sites and three devoted to specific domains – palliative care, oncogenetics, and radiation oncology.
Many patients are sent to the CICC to benefit from the unique expertise our teams possess and the range of treatments they can offer. Certain teams see clients with complex, rare cases – some unique in Quebec – such as cancers of the upper gastrointestinal tract, thyroid, adrenal glands, and cancer of the eye.
